    Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park / Aisinai'pi National Historic Site
    This park is an archaeological preserve and protects the largest concentration of native rock art on the North American Plains. The park also contains a reconstructed Northwest Mounted Police outpost and sandstone hoodoo rock formations. Guided tours are offered during the summer months.

    Dinosaur Provincial Park
    Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the park covers 7,332 hectares (18,116 acres) and is one of the most significant palaeontological sites in the world. Skeletons are on display in the Royal Tyrrell Museum Field Station as well as in an in-situ exhibit building. More than 300 complete fossil specimens have been uncovered. There are five self-guided trails. Interpretive programs mid-May to mid-Oct include bus tours, hikes and evening campfire and amphitheatre presentations. The park is located two hour drive east from Calgary, 170 km south-east (2 hrs) from Drumheller, and 48 km north east of Brooks.

    Dinosaur Provincial Park
    48 km northeast of Brooks, this UNESCO World Heritage Site provides both Badlands and Bones. Stay overnight at the campground or in nearby Brooks and join interpreters on guided walks past towering hoodoos and the bones of long vanished dinosaurs.

    Confederation Park
    Centrally located in downtown Taber, Confederation Park spans 11 acres (4.5 ha) and contains a playground, picnic areas, tennis courts and three baseball diamonds. The Arts and Crafts Centre, and Parkside Manor Senior's Centre are also located in the park. Many of the town's special events are held here.

    Cottonwood Park
    Cottonwood Park encompasses 43.7 hectares (108 acres) of land and was named after the nearby cottonwood forest. Visitors here will find views of the river valley, Milk River Ridge, Chief Mountain and the old narrow gauge incline railway bed. Some of the wildlife that can be viewed here includes deer, red foxes, woodpeckers and more.

    Alexander Wilderness Park
    This park was originally named after Lethbridge's first dairy farmer and original settler of the land, Lorenzo Alexander and opened in 1986. The 42 hectare (104 acre) floodplain offers three walking trails through various nature areas. Visitors will have opportunities to view wildlife such as the American White Pelican.

    Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens
    Designed in the early 1960s by renowned Japanese landscape artist Dr. Tadashi Kubo, the gardens stand as a monument to the Japanese Canadians who endured the government enforced relocation of British Columbia’s Japanese Canadians in 1942. Somewhat larger than its Vancouver counterpart, the 4 acre gardens opened on July 3, 1966, with a grand opening on July 14, 1967. In attendance were Prince and Princess Takamatsu, the brother and sister in law of Japan’s Emperor Hirohito. The gardens feature a traditional Japanese house made of bamboo, a large Zen garden, paths, pond, streams, pagoda and more. Local vegetation has been chosen for its similarity to Japanese plants. Tours of the house are available, lead by guides dressed in traditional kimonos. Open May through October. $5 adults, $4 seniors, $3 youth, free children under 5.

    Kinbrook Island Provincial Park
    Includes Alberta’s largest man-made body of water, Lake Newell, home to dozens of species of birds and waterfowl. Nearby Kinbrook Marsh has a 4 km (2.4 mi) self-guided interpretive trail, with more than 250 species of birds and waterfowl. The park has beaches, picnic areas and campsites, a boat launch and sailing club. Call the campground at 362-2962.

    Oldman River Dam Provincial Recreation Area
    The Oldman River Dam Provincial Recreation Area is located just north of hwy #3, 10 km west of the town of Pincher Creek. The recreation area includes several campgrounds, day use areas, and a group camp. At 1,620 hectares (4,000 acres), it is the largest provincial park in Alberta, and offers canoeing, sailing, fishing and other water sport opportunities, as well as historic sights and interpretive trails.

    Indian Battle Park

    Opened in 1987, Pavan Park is located at the north edge of Lethbridge and features a variety of recreational opportunities. Park attractions found here include the John Martin Recreation Area, Madame Jeanne Sauve Picnic Area, Pavan Equestrian Area and many trails.

    Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park
    Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park is worth the 170 km (105 mi) drive from Calgary. Located near Trochu, this park features stunning vistas and ancient rock formations, including hoodoos, sandstone banks and more. Hiking, picnicking and swimming in the Red Deer River are popular park activities. The 45 m (148) buffalo jump is one of the tallest in Alberta and the badland environment conjures visions of days long ago. The park is open from May 1 to September and the access road is closed during rainy spells, but hikers can still enjoy the park.

    Cornmaze at Robinpick Berry Farm
    The Cornmaze at Robinpick Berry Farm is created in seven acres of eight feet tall corn. This giant puzzle takes about an hour or longer to complete. It's open the from the first Saturday in August to the end of October, from Monday through Saturdays from 10am to 9pm. There is also a petting zoo, strawberries and pumpkins on the farm.

    Popson Park
    This large, open flood plain area measures 133 hectares (329 acres) in size and is named after a local family that has been in Lethbridge since 1886. The Oldman River Observatory is located in the park and visitors will also find a picnic and tenting area.

    Helen Schuler Coulee Centre
    Located in the river bottom (near Fort Whoop Up) is this 200-acre Lethbridge Nature Reserve. The centre includes self-guided nature walks and seasonal hands-on displays promoting nature appreciation. Open year round.

    Midland Provincial Park
    This was the site of the first two coal mines in the valley. An interpretive centre, housed in the former Midland Mine Office which operated from 1912 to 1959, is open daily. The park also includes a picnic area, walking trails and interpretive hikes.

    Horsethief Canyon
    17.6 km (10.5 miles) west of the Royal Tyrrell Museum, the canyon offers a spectacular view of the badlands valley and its multi-layered walls. Paths lead to petrified oyster beds. The area with its many folds and bends proved an ideal place for thieves to hide horses in the early 1900s.
