    Dinosaur Provincial Park Visitor Centre - Field Station of the Royal Tyrrell Museum
    This facility contains a laboratory for the preparation of fossil specimens going to the Tyrrell Museum, as well as scale models of dinosaurs and a bookstore. The centre's Sternberg-Andersen Theatre features a film that provides an overview of Dinosaur Provincial Park. Group tours are available by reservation.

    Fort Macleod
    Founded in 1874 with the arrival of the North West Mounted Police. Today, this town’s core is a Provincial Historic Area, with more than 30 vintage buildings, mostly dating from 1897 to 1914. Call 553-2500.

    Cardston
    Travel south on Hwy 2 from Fort Macleod to Cardston. The town is named after Charles Ora Card who led 11 Mormon families from Utah in 1887 in one of the 19th Century's last great covered wagon migrations. For more information about Cardston call 653-3366, or the tourist hut, 653-3787.

    Taber
    Home of sweet Taber corn, which Southern Albertans await every summer. Taber Municipal Park is a picnic and camping area located on the Oldman River, 5 km (3 mi) from town, open year-round, full services open May to Sept. Tel.403-223-0091

    Bow Island
    Known as the Bean Capital of Western Canada. Forty Mile Reservoir and Park is a recreation area with a 10 km (6.25 mi) man made lake and a 170-acre regional park located 22 km (13 mi) south of Bow Island off Hwy 879. Call the County of 40-Mile at 867-3530.

    Medicine Hat
    Located 63 km (37.8 mi) north of Cypress Hills, this is one of Canada’s sunniest cities, with more than 1,440 hours of sunshine each year. The city’s fortune rose at the start of the century when an abundance of natural gas was discovered. There's a self-guided Historical Walking Tour to several turn-of-the-century buildings. Pick up a guidebook from the Tourist Centre at the corner of the TransCanada Highway and Southridge Dr.

    Pincher Creek
    Travel north from Waterton on Hwy 6 to the cowboy town of Pincher Creek. The Pincher Creek & District Museum & Kootenai Brown Historical Park contain displays of more than 12,000 pioneer artifacts. Open May 16 to Sept 7, daily 10 am - 8 pm; then Sun and Wed, 1 - 5 pm and by appointment. Admission $3 adults/sen, $1.50 stu. South end James Ave at Grove St, call 627-3684. Lebel Mansion Gallery is open daily 1 - 5 pm during the summer. 696 Kettles St, 627-5272. An unusual attraction is the Crystal Village, a collection of 13 buildings made from 200,000 glass telephone insulators and 900 telephone line crossarms. It’s located at the Oldman River Antique Equipment & Threshing Club which features historic farm equipment and pioneer antiques, phone for hours. Located at Heritage Acres, open daily. 10 km (6.25 mi) north on Hwy 785 off Hwy 3, 627-2082. The Castle Wilderness Area west of town offers hiking trails and camping.     Hanna
    Back on Hwy 9, proceed east 61 km (36.6 mi) to Hanna. Look for the giant grey goose at the town entrance, a tribute to the bird hunting so popular in this area. Hanna Pioneer Village & Museum presents a ranch house, country store, church, hospital and CNR station, old-time cars and steam tractors. Daily 10 am - 6 pm in summer. Admission charged, 854-4244. Prairie Oasis Park by the Sheerness Power Plant offers water recreation, camping and a wildlife sanctuary. East of Hanna 50 km (30 mi) and south on Hwy 884 at Youngstown is Blood Indian Park, another spot on the prairie known for rainbow trout fishing.     Nanton
    Lies 70 km (42 miles) south of Calgary on Hwy 2. The Nanton Air Museum boasts one of the few remaining Lancaster Bombers and exhibits commemorating the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan active in the area during World War II. Donations.     Frank
    You’ll notice evidence of the slide of 1903, a disaster in which 90 million tons of rock crashed down Turtle Mountain, obliterating part of this coal mining town in less than 100 seconds. The Frank Slide Interpretive Centre has displays about the disaster and community life and settlement during the early coal mining days.     The geranium capital of Canada celebrates with the Geranium Days Festival May 22 - May 23, 9 am - 9 pm. Nearby Eagle Lake has boating, a beach, swimming and camping, call 934-4283. Strathmore has an 18-hole golf course, call 934-2299. Call the Chamber of Commerce at 934-6488.

    Gleichen
    The Siksika Reserve is 3 km (1.8 mi) south of the TransCanada Hwy. The Siksika are part of the Blackfoot Confederacy which includes the Peigans and Bloods of Southern Alberta and the Blackfoot in Montana. Siksika Museum at Old Sun College, is usually open wkdys 9 am - 4 pm or by appt. Donations. Group tours are available of Blackfoot Crossing, the National Heritage Site where Treaty Seven was signed and Chief Crowfoot’s grave. For information, call 734-5317 or 734-3862.

    Redcliff
    10 km (6 mi) northwest of Medicine Hat on the TransCanada, Redcliff has a thriving greenhouse industry, with more than 50 producers of flowers and vegetables. Greenhouses are open year round, free admission. The Redcliff Museum recalls early local industries with glass, brick and pottery manufacturing, and a vintage drugstore and school room.     Bassano
    Bassano Dam at Bassano, is one of the largest of its type, a 24-spillway gravity dam that provides Bow River water to the local irrigation system. is a 120-site campground by the reservoir, offering fishing and Crawling Valley Recreation Area boating.
